Sunrise Over a Thousand Balloons
Cappadocia, Turkey — Izzy, age 7
Our extraordinary, last-minute, out-of-this-world experience
There's a particular kind of quiet that happens right before a hundred hot air balloons lift off at once — and then, all at once, the sky fills with color.
We were up before dawn, still half-asleep in the jeep, when the first burners lit up the valley in gold. Isabella had never seen anything like it — she kept pointing and gasping every time a new balloon rose over the rock formations. Cappadocia has a way of making even a tired, jet-lagged morning feel like the best decision you made all year.
By the time the sun was fully up, we'd counted balloons until we lost track — somewhere past sixty. Isabella's verdict: "best morning ever, better than a birthday."
"Mommy, look, they're everywhere!" — Isabella, age 7, wide-eyed at her first balloon sunrise
An easy day spent lounging at the beach
Palm trees, a turquoise coastline, and enough sun loungers to make an eight-year-old feel like royalty. Coppa Beach Club turned out to be exactly the kind of relaxed, family-easy spot we look for — good shade, calm water, and staff who didn't mind us taking twenty photos in that giant heart sign.
The pool afternoons here became our ritual — goggles on, laughing more than actually swimming. Some of the best travel memories aren't at the landmark, they're floating around in the pool with your favorite person.
Isabella's 7th birthday gift — a day at Disneyland
We coordinated outfits, packed snacks, and walked through that famous gate the moment it opened. Say what you want about theme parks — there is something genuinely magical about watching your kid's face the first time she sees the castle, especially on her own birthday.
"Life is too short..." — the bench had the right idea
Stellenbosch was equal parts wine country and family trip — rolling vineyard views, easygoing afternoons, and a bench that summed up the whole philosophy behind this blog perfectly.
The Hazendal Syrah, tasted slowly with the vineyard stretching out below, was one of the standout pours of the trip. And a few months later, a quieter morning — coffee by the hotel window in Nice, no plans — reminded us that not every travel memory needs balloons or theme parks. Sometimes it's just good light and a warm cup.
A regular stop on our travels — where family and friends are waiting
Not every trip is about ticking off somewhere new. Berlin is one of our regulars — the kind of place we return to for the people, not the postcards, and a slow canal-side walk between hugs hello is usually how the afternoons go.
